Pitch Feedback

For my pitch to the club owner i will write below his advice and what he thought was good about the event.

Advice -
His advice was for me to look further into this and try to get more locations as he thought the demand would be more so maybe do more than one night.

Try to get more local funding.

What was good about the event -

He listened to both musicians music and loved the indie rock vibe that was coming from them ad thought they would gel good together and have the same type of fan base.

He also liked the way I had planned everything and how I tried to get in contact with the Junction as it showed that i was interested and wanted to know more.

He also liked the ticket and poster designs i had made. Thought they looked good enough for the real thing for something small this event.

Below is my presentation with feedback underneath them from Barney Oram (my teacher).

Feedback in order and my answers to the questions he has asked me.

  • You should add in some context. What are these funding opportunities and how could they be accessed?
The first one helps new musicians on the scene to get advice and a path to where they would like to go or be.
The second one is for helping fund new musicians and their music. They support them and grow with them along the process as long as the musician wants them to.
The third is for a younger generation and helping them to get into music and experiment with what they are good at or help them to learn to play instruments.

  • Have both images black and white to make it fit stylistically.

  • Alter the order of the points. The first should be that he has a following and has had his records played on Radio 1, commercial radio as well as streamed through Spotify and on YouTube.

  • Who has he toured with? Give an example as this would help identify the type of ‘fan base’ he may appeal to.
He has toured with The Who, Ed Sheeran, Tom Odell, Fitz and Trantrums, and Blur.

  • Turn image black and white.
  • What is a growing fanbase
A growing fanbase is when people who don't know or haven't listened to the artist suddenly really like their music or them as a person or both so they join the other group of people that like the same thing about the person and music. This grows and grows.
  • Expand ‘gig experience’ – where have they played? Small bars
Gig experience is when someone goes to the concert and experiences the live performance and everyone else in the room sings and screams along. Barns courtney has performed in small bars around america, Radio ones big weekend, SXSW Music Festival, on Conan, and BottleRock Napa Valley.

  • Is their music available online?
His music is available on Spotify, YouTube, and Sound Cloud.
  • Can you stream it?
I think you can stream anyone's music so yes you can stream his but mostly it's just on YouTube and Spotify.

  • What is the venue capacity?
J2 seats 220 people which I think is perfect as it wouldn't be hard to to fill up.
  •  Will it be filmed to go online later?
Yes it would be filmed. His label and friends would film it. As they do at every place he goes to when touring.
  • What is young adult? 16-23? Be specific (this is Radio 1’s target group).
The starting age is 16 and it then goes up.
  • Will having a small audience increase demand for the ticket/event? (yes) Cambridge has two universities and is likely to have an audience for him.

  • These should be:
    Raise profile in UK
Meet industry professionals& increase mainstream media presence
Social media buzz due to limited nature of the gig
These are likely to be the reasons for a small gig.
